The Costanza opposite strategy to win friends, influence people
The Costanza 'inverse' methodology to make companions, impact individuals The Costanza 'inverse' methodology to make companions, impact individuals During one of the most popular scenes (The Opposite) of the TV show Seinfeld, cold and unemployable character, George Costanza chooses to quit following his senses and do something contrary to what he's consistently done.George: My life is the direct inverse of all that I need it to be. Each intuition I have in each part of life, be it something to wear, something to eat⦠It's frequently off-base. Jerry: On the off chance that each intuition you have isn't right, at that point the inverse would need to be correct. â" Seinfeld, The Opposite (1994)This light switch second implied that Costanza would be straightforward, go up against his feelings of dread and follow what he needs in life. Here's a clasp of George Costanza doing something contrary to what he would do.George Costanza The Opposite from SeinfeldClearly, this is a sitcom and not reality, in any case, there are important life exercises we can gain from Costanza's inverse strategy.A not many years back, I did precisely the same thing in an alternate setting and it totally changed my life. Here's the way ⦠How doing the inverse could assist you with making companions and impact peopleIt was an ordinary evening mid-day break. I'd leave my work area at 1 p.m. also, stroll over the street from my office to the nearby food cafe.2 minutes after the fact I'd handpick a sandwich - ordinarily a chicken and lettuce loaf - a parcel of crisps and green smoothie. Then, I'd join the line trusting that the clerk will take my installment. At the point when my chance to pay came around, I would hand over the food things to the clerk, whip out my card to pay and stroll back to the workplace with my lunch.I didn't think. I didn't talk. I didn't know about my environmental factors, the names of the clerks thus on.It was a day by day careless schedule that rehashed itself for a few months. One day, while thoughtlessly remaining on the line to pay for my lunch, one of the clients got into a contention with one of the cashiers. From what I could see, the clerk had charged the client an inappropriate measure of cash by mistake. But, the client wasn't in the mode for forgiveness. The client yelled at the clerk, took steps to call his administrator and disclosed to him that she'd never returned to the bistro again.Towards the finish of this disaster, the client raged outside the bistro and the clerk stood solidified, with a look as though he was going to blast into tears. For the first run through in quite a while of visiting this bistro every day, I at last woke up from my zombie state. In my brain at that point, I had two alternatives to pick from.Option 1: Do what I normally do. Give the clerk my food, pay for food and leave quick. No time for babble or inviting eye contact.Option 2: Do the inverse. Rather than hurrying ceaselessly with my food, I could address the clerk to perk him up, investigate him and give him a tip.In case you're pondering, I went with Option 2.I addressed the clerk how about we call him Jose-and spoke quickly about what had occurred, where he was from thus on.Nothing excessively uncommon in my eyes, simply indicating veritable premium and becoming more acquainted with him as a person. Before I knew it, different clerks began to join the discussion, snicker and grin again. It appeared my choice to do something contrary to what I generally did, assisted with bringing back a constructive state of mind in the cafe. After saying my farewells to the staff at the bistro, the ranking director of the clerks pivoted and said to me something along these lines:I consistently observe you around here, yet you never said howdy as of not long ago. However, that is ordinary I surmise in this city. Everybody's consistently in a surge and they never set aside the effort to become acquainted with the individuals who serve them. You're the primary client who's demonstrated a veritable enthusiasm for becoming more acquainted with the group in some time. Much obliged to you, have a decent day and please return soon.I said thanks to the administrator and strolled outside the bistro with a radiating grin. It had been some time since I felt so glad about my life. For the remainder of the week, I would address, snicker with and become more acquainted with the laborers who I never saw however served me on a day by day basis. These were the transport drivers, the cleaners, clerks, receptionists, security monitors, etc, I experienced the contrary as far as possible through.By the finish of the primary week, I knew their names by heart. I knew their fantasies and interests, the names of their youngsters, their leisure activities and plans for the future.I was not, at this point an alien to them, I turned into their friend. After two or three weeks, these companions would appear for me in the midst of hardship or crisis.Remember Jose, the clerk who got yelled at? Jose turned into the ranking director of the nearby bistro that I visited on a day by day basis.Coincidentally, I previously began to build up a fellowship with Jose from the absolute first day I attempted to do the opposite. On the days I neglected to carry money to pay for food, Jose would demand paying for me.On in excess of a bunch of events, he'd even set up a free lunch for me and let me avoid the line on occupied days. And that is just Jose.I've had a portion of my companions who are transport drivers and security monitors, let me on the transport for a free ride at whatever point I lost my transport pass or skirt the line with the expectation of complimentary section into exceptional events.Over time I constructed this propensity for doing the inverse and being benevolent with the staff of any scene I go to, and it paid off.I would get free welcomes to restrictive occasions, open doors for business organizations, limits at cafés thus on.I never requested anything consequently, yet they all demanded giving me something as a byproduct of indicating an authentic enthusiasm for them. Some individuals consider this the law of correspondence, and others may state I took in these mysteries from Dale Carnegie's book, How to Win Friends and Influence People (Audiobook). But, I accept that the explanation is straightforward: I treated them in an unexpected path in comparison to every other person they had experienced on a day by day basis. In different words, I did the inverse, much the same as George Costanza in the Seinfeld scene The Opposite, and you can do something very similar too.Your life in oppositesThe meaning of craziness is doing likewise again and again, however anticipating various outcomes. â" Albert EinsteinWhat would your life look like on the off chance that you did something contrary to what you would ordinarily do, or what every other person is by all accounts doing?Instead of letting apprehension of disappointment or dismissal keep you away from progress, consider the possibility that you took a risk to assemble that fantasy relationship, approach your manager for a compensation rise, travel to another nation, start a blog, start an organization thus on?If your life hasn't been working out the manner in which you need it to, it won't cost you a lot to attempt the inverse as an analysis for a few weeks. You wouldn't peruse this at the present time, in the event that I hadn't taken a risk to do the inverse and dispatch this platform. My inclination would have been to stay mysterious and keep my thoughts in my hidden diary. In any case, I picked the inverse and you can do the equivalent today. When in question, simply recall the expressions of Jerry from the Seinfeld scene: On the off chance that each impulse you have isn't right, at that point the inverse would need to be right.Mayo Oshin composes at MayoOshin.com, where he shares useful personal development thoughts and demonstrated science for better wellbeing, profitability and creativity. The 9 Most Sought After Work Perks A recognition of your hard work can make all the difference to productivity and the atmosphere within a working environment. However, when those perks seem more like a gimmick, they can have a negative effect and can make staff wonder if theyâre an invaluable member of the team. SmallBusinessPrices.co.uk conducted a survey with UK employees to see if they are satisfied with their job benefits. The study has revealed huge differences in what people want compared to what they get, such as 6% of employees currently receiving travel and company car benefit, although 16% of staff surveyed would rather have transport benefits over a pay rise. What You Get vs What You Want Respondents revealed what they currently receive but also what they would value over a pay rise, key findings included: 20% of employees receive an employee discount, however, only 11% of the surveyed workers wanted one of their benefits to be employee discounts. Additional holidays/sabbaticals and flexible working hours are considered a high priority work benefit, as 26% of respondents said they would prefer the benefit over a pay rise. Although training is critical to career growth, only 3% of staff would prefer the perk over a pay rise, compared to the 12% that actually receive the benefit. Gender Gap Happiness Men and women in terms of happiness with company benefits are relatively similar both rise and decrease in the same areas, however, they do fluctuate in terms of percentage. 18% of men consider themselves very happy with the company benefits they receive, whereas women are less happy with the work benefits only 14% of women consider themselves very happy. More women appear to sit on the fence in terms of job benefit satisfaction: 45% described themselves as somewhat happy, compared to the 42% of men. This trend continues into neutral feelings for company benefits, as well as somewhat unhappy. Overall, both men and women ranked very similarly. Men ranked higher at both ends of the spectrum, with 4% of men considering themselves very unhappy with the benefits they receive compared to only 2% of women. Get Out of (The Good Girl) Jail Free
Get Out of (The Good Girl) Jail Free So often times it happens that we live our lives in chains, and we never even know we have the key. The Eagles, Already Gone I played that song often as my toxic relationship ended. It gave me strength to finally end what had been a three year nightmare. Im what they call a people pleaser. My life focus was trying to live by the rules. The expectations, judgments, and needs of others usually held more importance than mine. Sound familiar? Psychology is a funny thing. Unlike a physical condition, there is no doctor to do an -ectomy. And while some people cope by using various drugs or alcohol, my experience is that those are merely temporary escapes that only temporarily cover up the issues. When you wake up sober or straight, nothing has changed. You still hurt. Youre still empty in ways that cannot be described. Most of us learn to cope, or just numb our way through life. We forget who we really are. Because there is no magic pill and no permanent fix, we never quite get to a place called normal. But that doesnt mean life cannot get better. Like waking from an unpleasant dream, its possible to re-connect to that pure and wonderful part of ourselves that longs to be free. Ive been to counseling. Ive been to seminars, read countless books. And of course, Ive done meditation and yoga. But you have to realize that these are all tools, not cures. You learn what you can, and go forward. Hopefully, you move a little closer to your true self. As editor of Ms Career Girl, I receive many requests to do book reviews. I choose those that, according to the PR pitch, sound interesting and relevant to the Ms Career Girl audience. Sometimes, I get a pleasant surprise. Beyond the Good Girl Jail When Beyond the Good Girl Jail arrived, I read the other resources before starting the book. And, I took an online assessment that is an additional resource developed by the author, Sandra Felt. As I went through the questions, I cried. I dont think Ive ever failed a test so badly! Yes, Im still on the journey to my true self. As I read each page of the book, the stories resonated, the emotions, and tears, flowed. But it wasnt because Im hopeless. It was because it was like reading about my own life. The author gives useful . . . no, powerful tools to use in our quest to get out, or stay out, of the good girl jail. Below are a couple of my favorite quotes and one of the pieces of poetry also written the author. I highly recommend this heart-touching read. I cannot imagine a better book crossing my desk any time soon. There will be a follow-up to this post, an interview with the author. Watch for it. The Good-Girl Jail is not punishment for doing something wrong. In fact, it is the result of trying hard to do everything right according to the expectations of others. . Many of us set aside our true self somewhere along the way and no longer fully live our own life or listen to our innate inner guidance. Some of us have even forgotten that our true self exists and dont realize this has happened. It seems to sneak up on us. . When we listen to that other voice inside, our true self, however, our response is different. Something inside seems to click into place. What we are hearing fits us and feels right. We can breathe more easily. Our body relaxes. Sometimes we sigh. We often feel relief and just know what we need to do. Images Woman on Beach Bill Kuffrey Key tszchungwing

The Single Most Important Consideration for your Resume
The Single Most Important Consideration for your Resume The Job Search Bible asked a variety of career coaches and authors to give their single best piece of advice to job seekers about their resume. My contribution and many others are included in this post. I believe that many job seekers donât think of their resume as a marketing document. They forget to put themselves in the mindset of their buyers (potential employers.) Instead of an objective at the top of their resume, which outlines what the candidate is looking for, their opening statement should tell the reader: Hereâs what you get when you hire me. Candace Moody Find the whole post here. Enjoy it as I enjoy a long holiday weekend.

Why Speculating the Story makes you a Dummy
Why Speculating the Story makes you a Dummy One of the things I love about little kids is that they have no filter. They ask you what they want to know and they tell you whatever you ask them. Itâs only when we grow up that this changes. Now instead of asking âwhatâs the deal?â, we the adults instead choose speculating. Yeah, we sit there and create a storyline that has absolutely no basis in reality and has nothing to do with the person whom we feel has wronged us. Nope, just us and our pea brains going to work. In a vacuum. And when weâre done creating, we deal out consequences based upon that imaginative masterpiece. When did we become so dumb? Our speculations are based upon two things: 1. The messed up way that we view the world based upon our experiences, and 2. Our insecurities. Yes, the problem lies with you boo, so stop. This became clear to me recently when I endured 48 hours of hell-bent rage. Hereâs what happened⦠So my friend had a birthday. Weâve been friends for 5 years and for the past 4 she has invited me to her party. So imagine my surprise when her birthday passed this year and yours truly did not get an invite. Whaaat?! Me?! Who does she think she is? I was livid! Itâs one thing to not invite me over on the weekend, but to exclude ME from your birthday party, well this was war. I called her every name in the book, to myself of course. I speculated as to why why why she would not invite me. I was sure I knew the only possibilities: She needed some space from me. She didnât want to be friends anymore and this was the perfect way to make that clear. She got some new friends and was feeling like the It girl of the week Sheâs a bitch When you speculate you are usually wrong It was definitely one of those four possibilities. Duh. Well, forget her, I will NEVER speak to her again. She has some balls. I was mad. For two days. Then I calmed down and accepted it. I thought hey, people have the right to not invite someone they donât feel like inviting. I was hurt. Then two more days passed, and guess what I got? An invitation to her birthday party. Huh? I was happy! I went, partied like a rock star and made resolutions to be a better friend. But wait, I still didnât have the story. All of a sudden she busted it out. Whats the deal?⦠The night before her birthday, her brother was celebrating his 30th in rock star fashion. They all knew in advance that they would need a week to recover, so she put off her party for a week. Wow. I was stupid. Youâve done the same thing countless times in both your personal and professional life. Created a story and convinced your stupid self that the only possibility was what you thought it was. Tried and executed people in your life when the fact is you just didnât know. Stop. When you speculate, you are usually WRONG. If itâs that important to you, just ask. Donât be a dummy.

The Big Sleep How a good nights rest improves your productivity
The Big Sleep How a good nights rest improves your productivity On average humans are thought to spend one third of their lives sleeping. Now, thatâs a fair chunk of time. However, this figure is starting to decrease at an alarming rate, even though we all cherish our sleep. According to the experts, it should take around ten to fifteen minutes to fall asleep at night. If it takes less than 5 minutes, its thought to be a sign of sleep deprivation. How long does it take you to drop off after your head hits the pillow? On average, six in ten Brits are sleep deprived. And lack of sleep can lead to a myriad of health problems such as weight gain and headaches, all of which are really disruptive to our health and are completely avoidable. Sleep is incredibly important for a healthy lifestyle. So why is it that we constantly put sleep on a backburner? Our standby mode how does it work? Sleeping is very complicated process. It involves two cycles and consists of non-REM and REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Non-REM sleep consists of four stages. The first two stages include falling asleep and the body regulating heart rate, temperature and breathing. The second two stages consists of deep sleep, which is thought to be important for the processes of learning and memory. The body then shifts into the REM sleep cycle, kind of like second gear, where the brain is activated in similar ways to when we are awake. The body becomes paralysed (so we donât wander around and accidentally end up in some awkward situations!) and our breathing rate increases as we dream. Dreaming is seen as a vital component of sleep, but its purpose and function are disputed by many. Whether youre having sweet dreams of happy times, or nightmares about approaching deadlines (as Debuts research has revealed many students do), theyre a necessary part of the sleep cycle. Some even argue they play an important role in our memory of events, and others say they help to declutter the brain of unimportant information. These cycles repeat approximately four to five times in one night. But the question is, why is sleep so important for us and why do we avoid it? Sleep is more important than you think Sleeping can have a major impact on the way our brains functions. Getting enough sleep is important for the brains ability to process and remember information that we receive during the day. So in order to remember what your boss yelled at you for and to remember those last minute notes you made, you absolutely need your beauty sleep. Research has also shown that sleeping helps in the process of removing waste products from the brain. It sounds a bit yuck but trust the science, itâs crucial. In addition to this, sleep is important for our physical health too. Risks related to depression, diabetes, migraines and blood pressure can rise massively due to insufficient sleep. Along with a weakening of the immune system and negative impacts on our metabolism. Its vital that we allow our body to rest and recuperate, so it seems thereâs an advantage to being in bed by 10pm after all. Unfortunately, many of us sacrifice our sleep for other seemingly more important activities like Instagram scrolling and Netflix binging. So why donât we all go to bed early? A culture of all-nighters has increased in recent years, especially amongst students and young people. When were under so much pressure to be academically successful, maintain a busy social life and also earn money to pay the bills, sleep often comes low down on our list of priorities and at the expense of our health. We often delay going to sleep so we can finish our last-minute assignments and meet our work deadlines. But sometimes we just need to go to bed. Such a sleepless culture is glorified on social media, and in work and university environments, where people often brag about staying up late to finish a project. In some workplaces late-night working is even encouraged, with little regard for individuals mental and physical health. But its important to reject this pressure and to know whats best for yourself. Most adults need seven to eight hours of sleep every night to maintain a healthy mind and body, and this is just as important as meeting those deadlines. It really is. Getting a good amount of sleep means we are mentally and physically healthier, which in return can help us to work more efficiently and become the best versions of ourselves (yay!). How do you do it? So you really need to prioritise getting a good amount of sleep. By managing your time more effectively through appropriate planning, you can meet deadlines for work. This will ensure you donât fall into the trap of sacrificing your sleep to finish work. Use the technology available to you, such as calendar apps and reminders, to stay on top of your workload. Remember that aside from working hard to achieve your goals, you also need to work hard at taking care of yourself. Its important to show some self-love in order to fully enjoy your successes. In other words, work hard, sleep hard. Connect with Debut on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn for more careers insights.
